Okinawa

The ship moored in Okinawa with my point and shoot camera

Staff Corps pig roast

The Staff Corps officers (Dental, Medical, Supply) prepare five pigs for the pig roast on the flight deck before heading home to Japan.

Open Swim

A hundred miles to the East of Taiwan. The water was so still that morning that the Captain gave everyone an hour or so to swim in the ocean.
Sailors and Marines lining up in the well deck ready to jump in the water. To the left is the hull of the ship and to the right is the LCU on which I am standing. When we launch the LCU, the ship lowers and the well deck fills with 8 feet of water.
Corpsman Wall (my hygienist) and Allen looking at the open ocean from inside the well-deck as the stern gate opens.

Singapore Botanic Gardens and Orchid Park

Singapore's national flower is the orchid. They are everywhere.
You can't see it in this picture, but every inch of this tree was carved with the names of visitors to the gardens in many different languages.

Surrounded by yellow orchids.

Last day in Brunei

View of the ocean from the Empire Hotel, the 1.1 billion dollar hotel owned by the sultan.

Suppo and I visited the Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque. This is just the lobby; there were no pictures allowed on the inside. Too bad because it was impressive.
